Message
from Rabbi Rubinger
Dear Friends,
Scrolling through this web page, perhaps
some of you are wondering what kind of synagogue
is Congregation Ohev Shalom? It is a synagogue,
I believe, of much warmth, a synagogue too
that feels a very strong sense of commitment
to Conservative Judaism, to the State of Israel,
to the Jewish community beyond our own walls,
and to the caring for all of God’s children..
It is also a synagogue of learning – not
just for children, but for people of all ages.
It is, as well, I believe, the synagogue in
the Orlando Jewish community that has the very
best attendance at religious services, the
largest adult education program available,
the finest religious
school and the most active
Youth Groups, Sisterhood, Men’s Club and
Seniors.
In short, it’s a busy, hectic, scheduled-full
center buzzing with Jewish activity. It’s
a place where people feel that being Jewish
is a much more than just a three day obligation.
Rather, it is part of the core of who they
and their children are and who wish to integrate
Jewish values and practices into their own
lives.
I take great pride that our synagogue has the
reputation of being so haimish (friendly) to
newcomers. I take great pride in how much our
children learn and how they do at their Bnai
Mitzvah. I take great pride in how many adults
have opted to have an adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
I take great pride that not only are we the
only Conservative Congregation in Florida with
a mikvah, but that it is used so often by those
who study here to become Jews by Choice. I
take great pride in the abilities, dedication,
and professionalism of our Cantor,
Allan Robuck,
our Director of Youth and
Family Education, Amy Gebboff, our Executive
Director, Phil
Wolgel , and of our Rabbi
Emeritus, Rabbi Rudolph Adler.
And I take great pride as well in the generosity
of time that our Board members and so many
synagogue volunteers demonstrate week after
week.
We are a synagogue that welcomes your membership
and even more your involvement. Our unofficial
motto is :”We make good Jews!”.
That, in a nutshell, is the essence of COS..
With Affection,
Aaron D. Rubinger
Rabbi
